Position Description

The Assistant Manager of the Machinery Department will help lead a team of marine mechanical engineers at multiple locations working principally in the marine engineering disciplines of propulsion, power generation, piping systems, machinery integration, and HVAC. The assistant manager is responsible for supporting the planning, scheduling, directing, and approving work assigned to the department, and assuring that quality products are delivered on time and within budget. He /she is also responsible for supporting the development, mentoring, training, and evaluation of staff members to maximize their career potentials.

Accountabilities

  • Self-starter, able to understand objectives, organize work and commence action
  • Effectively support the hiring, development, evaluation, and supervision of staff
  • Reliably estimate / approve budgets, schedules, staffing, and develop execution plans
  • Exercise sound, experience-based engineering judgment
  • Assure delivery of engineering products that meet quality assurance criteria and are on time and within budget
  • Interface with clients at all levels, management, colleagues, and vendors
  • Market within current engagements to expand scope of work and identify new opportunities
  • Secure customer satisfaction and repeat business


Required Qualifications
  • U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain Secret Security Clearance
  • B.S. in Marine or Mechanical Engineering
  • 10+ years of marine engineering experience, preferably with exposure to diverse disciplines
  • Strong background in U.S. Naval and Commercial Ship Design
  • Ability to use AutoCAD and to prepare reports and presentations in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively via verbal and written English


Desired Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer's License
  • M.S. in Marine or Mechanical Engineering
