Southwestern University, located in Georgetown, Texas has an immediate opening for an Assistant/Associate Director of the Center for Career & Professional Development. This position empowers students and alumni to shape their professional identities, develop career-readiness skills, and construct well-managed professional lives by providing advising, programming, and resources to explore education and career options, and engage in successful searches for employment. This is an in-person, full-time, twelve-month, exempt position with full benefits who reports to the Director of the Center for Career & Professional Development.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides career advising and referrals to assist students with the career development process, including clarifying objectives, obtaining occupational/industry information, and making the transition from college to career Assists with developing systems to ensure integration and efficiency of communication, information management, staffing, and workflow as well as the technological tools needed to support them Plans logistical and programmatic elements of CCPD's on-campus and online programming and events, including professional development academies, workshops, panels, and fairs Helps students develop and refine resume writing, interviewing, and job-search skills Leads the development and implementation of student-alumni mentoring programs Recruits, selects, trains, and supervises, and evaluates student staff; mentors and provides feedback regarding performance; monitors reliability and time sheets Capitalizes on campus partners' and alumni knowledge of professional/personal networks Troubleshoots concerns and inquiries by alumni, parents, students, and employers Connects with employers to create networking and employment opportunities Assists in design of database management systems, including policies and procedures for data collection and management; develops mechanisms for tracking and reporting data/statistics Assists with the overall administration and office operations

Additional Duties:

  • Assists with other University Relations efforts as needed
  • Reviews and evaluates assessment tools and resources
  • May serve as liaison to student groups, clubs, and organizations
  • May assist with design of curriculum, comprising career exploration and career management topics
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Three to five years of post-graduate work experience
  • Knowledge of career-development theory and application and basic understanding of and commitment to value of career competencies and career-readiness skills
  • Demonstrated professional manner with all internal and external University constituencies, including strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral, written, listening)
  • Demonstrated professional attitude and team spirit
  • Possess integrity and an affable nature
  • Demonstrate leadership skills, including a strong work ethic
  • Willingness to adhere to the University's core values
  • Initiative and creativity to develop and spearhead new projects
  • Discernment; ability to make independent judgements
  • Ability to be flexible, adjust to fluctuating priorities, and produce reliable work product
  • Proven ability to perform well in stressful situations
  • Ability and willingness to travel utilizing standard, commercial, and/or personal modes of transportation
  • Ability to attend work consistently and maintain a regular work schedule
  • Ability and willingness to do occasional evening and weekend work
  • Excellent computer skills utilizing software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Docs, and career-technology tools

Preferred Position Requirements:

  • Master's degree in counseling, student development, or related field

Work Supervision:

  • This position involves responsibility for direction of work for student workers.
