Job Title: Area Safety Manager - Mesa, Arizona

Job Summary: The Area Safety Manager (ASM) serves as the regional specialist in safety by implementing best practices and procedures in accordance with corporate guidance to effectively control accident and health exposures and minimize OSHA citations.

Essential Duties and responsibilities:

Tracking & evaluating job site safety measures

  • Perform job site walks (to be conducted on assigned job sites on a weekly basis)
  • Attend safety leadership walks (as scheduled by client or GC)
  • Update site management and Safety Director on job site safety findings (upon completion of each audit or walk)
  • Perform Pre-Task Plan auditing (conduct field evaluation and training of personnel to correct deficiencies)
  • Perform job site audits (conduct evaluation based on corporate audit questionnaire)
  • Educate/train labor/safety personnel about safety measures/practices (provide training and updates on policies and best practices)
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures (support field/safety personnel in understanding requirements of policies and procedures)
Manage & report field incidents & injuries
  • Manage accident/safety claims as they occur (accompany employee to urgent care as needed and perform case management with Safety Director)
  • Follow up on accidents and investigating causes (complete initial reports and provide investigation details. Assist/lead root cause analysis)
  • Submit incident reports (by occurrence)
  • Provide safety information to senior leadership and safety personnel as needed
  • Provide first aid for minor injuries
Provide company safety leadership:
  • Attend client safety meetings
  • Provide information at job start up/kick off meetings
  • Lead/support client/GC incident review meetings
  • Provide feedback to Safety Director on client/GC safety requirements
Provide safety support to field
  • Attend site safety meetings
  • Conduct safety orientation (on as needed basis)
  • Collaborate with field supervision to find safety solutions
  • Coordinate with field supervision to support client and GC safety compliance
  • Assist site safety personnel in solution based problem solving

Qualifications:
  • BSc/BA in safety management or relevant field is preferred
  • 3 - 5 years of experience as Site Safety Manager on a construction site
  • Good understanding of legal health and safety guidelines
  • Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment
  • Excellent organizational and motivational skills
  • Ability to remotely lead a team of personnel
  • Good communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Good knowledge of MS Office Suite
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment

Working Conditions:

Mix between field (70%) and office-based (30%) work environment. Typical working hours for the ASM may vary. Generally, Monday - Friday during normal business hours, but when safety incidents occur, they may be required to work longer hours, including some weekend work. Some travel may be required for training/continuing education/or immediate staffing requirements.

While performing the duties of this job, the ASM may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration; may be exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites (weather, noise, etc.).
