Advising Coordinator II - Department of Forestry, Wildlife and Fisheries
The Department of Forestry, Wildlife and Fisheries invites applications for the position of Advising Coordinator II, stationed in Knoxville, Tennessee, on the campus of the UT Institute of Agriculture within the Herbert College of Agriculture. The primary responsibility of this position is to foster the holistic success of students in the Department of Forestry, Wildlife and Fisheries. Additionally, the Advising Coordinator will advise a variety of majors and minors, as well as those students showing prospective interest in the Herbert College of Agriculture. This position has responsibilities for advising students on appropriate courses for completion of the academic requirements for the appropriate majors/concentrations, supporting student transition to college life, teaching students about academic opportunities, and coordinating efforts related to student success and advising. The Advising Coordinator also interprets and advises students on policies and procedures of the university and college and coordinates the departmental faculty mentoring program and retention tracking efforts for the College. Student Development. Provides academic, co-curricular, and career-related guidance and resources for undergraduate students in the department; develops a process to actively facilitate faculty mentorship and ongoing faculty engagement for all undergraduate students; manages the development and distribution of regular student communications including emails, newsletters, text messages and other campaigns aimed at driving student engagement and involvement; serves on departmental committees and monitors student-related policies, procedures, and program changes; serves as an ex officio member of the curriculum committee and provides insights and recommendations regarding undergraduate programs based on student feedback and known trends; reports regular updates on student enrollment, retention, and other demographic statistics to the head; educates students about funding and support and works to communicate these opportunities; actively recruits students; coordinates and attends student recognition programs and events; develops and implements programs designed to increase student retention, a sense of belonging, and engagement in leadership activities within the department; develops and oversees programs designed to support the overall wellness and mental health of undergraduates in the department; and serves as a liaison and department representative to faculty and colleagues across the Herbert College of Agriculture. Prospective Student Recruitment and Enrollment. In coordination with the Assistant Director for Recruitment in Herbert College, the coordinator leads the planning, implementation, and evaluation of recruitment efforts for the department; supports students applying for fellowships, awards, and other prestigious academic opportunities; develops and coordinates department-specific recruitment practices as well as the necessary policies, procedures, and materials to meet or exceed departmental goals; provides leadership and coordination of prospective student visits and events across the department; collaborates with faculty and department personnel on outreach campaigns and activities; and collaborates with colleagues in central university recruitment to help meet or exceed annual recruitment and enrollment goals for the department and college.
