Description:

Course Description: An introductory course in drawing, designed to develop the ability to perceive and translate visual phenomenon with a variety of drawing materials. This course is required for all art majors as preparation for all other art courses. All drawing is done directly from life.

 

Teaching a section of Drawing 1.

  • Prepare a detailed syllabus for the course and distribute a copy of the syllabus to each student.  The syllabus must conform to the requirements set forth in the Faculty Handbook and those that may be established by the department chair.
  • Maintains weekly office hours.  When classes are in session, part-time faculty are expected to be on campus at least one hour for each course taught to meet with students outside class.  These meetings may take place immediately before or after class. 
  • Keeps an accurate record of student attendance and reports excessive absences to the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs.
  • Maintains an accurate record of grades and submits final grades in a timely manner to the Registrar.
  • Seeks ways to improve teaching effectiveness.  Evaluates teaching effectiveness through student ratings of course and instruction and self-evaluation.

Qualifications:

Master's degree and 18 graduate hours in teaching subject.  In exceptional cases, outstanding professional experience and demonstrated contributions to the teaching discipline may be presented in lieu of formal academic preparation.  Such cases must be justified by the institution on an individual basis.

  • Previous teaching experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exhibit good judgement in making decisions concurrent with College policy.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with all constituents.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and knowledge of course content.
