Description

The Nebraska Department of Education is looking for an Accounting Associate to provide accounting and office support to Assistive Technology Partnership (ATP) staff by ensuring payments are made correctly, staff complete fiscal requirements, and providing information and technical support.

Nebraska Department of Education employees are working from hybrid work locations. This approach includes both working in the Lincoln VR office and from a home office. The Assistive Technology Program's hybrid work schedule is two days per week in the Lincoln VR office and three days per week from a home office. The amount of time spent working from home or in the office is subject to supervisory approval and will be discussed at the interview.

Budgeted Salary Range:

$14.538 - $16.717 This range is based upon available budget funds. The selected candidate's skills, abilities, education, and experience will determine the salary offer within this posted range.

Examples of Work

  • Processes invoices, tracks and pays service authorizations, and distributes project consumer satisfaction surveys.
  • Performs administrative duties and accounting work including preparing, maintaining, and processing financial records and documents, accounts receivable and payable, and reports in the State of Nebraska accounting system. Processes invoices, tracks and pays service authorizations.
  • Manages contract and other agreement renewal dates.
  • Generates fiscal reports for the federal grant and enters data for required federal reports. Closes the ATP federal grant at end of fiscal carryover period.
  • Prepares files and documents for storage according to record retention guidelines.
  • Reviews project service authorization packets, makes copies, sends service authorization, and files project information.
  • Possesses a valid driver's license, travels independently, and works in a variety of settings.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Collaborates with other Program Associates to carry out clerical functions and processes in support of the department. Assists with answering phones and inquiries, greeting visitors, and maintains the office in absence of other staff.
  • Monitors grant or other agreement balances and expenditures and initiates closure activities or assignment of new business units.
  • Manages office supplies and equipment for all ATP office locations. Assists with processing equipment loans and check-ins.
Qualifications / Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience related to the essential functions of the position. Any equivalent education and/or work experience may be substituted in order to meet the minimum qualifications of the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

Associate degree or postsecondary coursework in Accounting, Business, or related field and at least two years of related experience. Familiarity with the State Accounting System and proficiency with Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook).

Knowledge:

  • Basic accounting and record keeping principles and best practices.
  • Working knowledge of office filing systems, support functions, and other office processes.
  • Formats used in written business communications.
  • English grammar, spelling, and composition needed for correspondence.
  • Computer software necessary to carry out job responsibilities.
  • Types and uses of office equipment.
  • Office management principles, methods, and procedures.
  • Established policies, procedures, practices of the Nebraska Department of Education.

Abilities:

  • Work in a fast-paced environment using prioritization and multi-tasking skills.
  • Understand and apply instructions and administrative policies and guidelines.
  • Locate and summarize information from files and documents.
  • Prepare internal reports and documents.
  • Communicate orally and in writing with agency staff and the public.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Maintain the confidential nature of information.
  • Understand, interpret, and apply rules, administrative policies, and program guidelines.
  • Operate office equipment necessary to perform the required duties.
