RESPONSIBILITIES:

Kforce is working with one of our premier government partners to hire a long term 12+ month Accountant in Madison, WI. Summary:This position will sit in Madison, WI but currently is 100% remote until they return back to work after the pandemic. To be considered for this exciting position please read through the following qualifications:This position will work under general supervision and be responsible for performing advanced accounting and financial reporting functions for the Retirement System (RS) as well as other employee benefit plans. This encompasses more than 12 GAAP funds which are reported as either Fiduciary or Proprietary funds. This position is responsible for independently performing the most complex financial calculations; managing and maintaining multiple accounting systems for the benefit plans and administrative operations of the Department; and the development and preparation of stand-alone departmental financial statements in accordance with GAAP. This position is also actively involved in the analysis, development and implementation of procedures to ensure the most efficient, effective and economical implementation of work plans and/or procedures.This client is looking for an analytical and motivated accountant to support the WRS and related programs. We are looking for someone who is detail oriented, eager to learn about complex benefit programs, and interested in helping the team ensure proper and timely reporting. We want someone who thrives on digging into complex issues and proposing solutions; someone who is interested in researching and interpreting standards; and someone who is willing to challenge the status quo and improve processes.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting or Auditing
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) professional designation is preferred but not required
  • 2 years of equivalent work-related experience (in an accounting or financial auditing field)
  • Advanced knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles applicable to state and local governments and principles applicable to trust funds
  • Ability to interpret and analyze financial data
  • Prepare financial statements, reports or other financial documents
  • Ability to analyze, research and interpret complex financial standards
  • Reconcile accounts on a periodic basis to other accounting systems and reviewing other staff output
  • Strong analysis and data gathering techniques
  • Ability to develop financial policies and procedures
  • Strong knowledge of the principles of internal control
  • Establish and maintain financial journals, accounts, ledgers and records within an automated financial system
  • Advise management on methods to improve accounting or other operational procedures
  • Communicate fiscal issues effectively with division/program staff
