PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties and Responsibilities
Inspects mobile equipment for proper operation and performs preventive maintenance and repairs as needed to maintain working conditions of the vehicles.
Maintains appropriate oil and fuel levels as well as other lubrication necessary for smooth operation of vehicles.
Performs the following types of repairs for mobile equipment:
- Tunes engines
- Changes tires and repairs electrical systems
- Air flow systems
- Hydraulic systems
- Drive lines, etc
Works at job sites as needed for repairs on equipment.
Cleans maintenance shop and the oil and fuel storage area.
Maintains and repairs shop equipment including welding equipment, air compressors, pumps and other related tools.
Performs road service assistance when drivers have operational problems with the trucks while on the road.
Performs mechanical repairs for customers as assigned.
Participates in continuing education as needed to stay abreast of new equipment and technological advances.
Prepares the required documentation for maintenance and repairs performed.
Performs a road test on vehicles as necessary.
Operated tank trucks to provide cement, water and lime to customers. Unloads tank at customer job sites in a safemanner.
Operates dump trucks to provide sand and rock to customers. Dumps material at customer job sites using appropriate safety precautions.
Operates lowboys and flatbed trucks to haul heavy equipment including loaders, off-road trucks, portable rock crushing plants, etc., some of which include oversized loads.
Loads and unloads lowboy and flatbed trucks, sometimes with no assistance.
Observes all safety rules and regulations.
Reliable and dependable attendance.

Training on the proper use, maintenance and repair of mobile equipment preferred. Two years related job experience preferred in the maintenance and repair of mobile equipment.
Knowledge and ability to perform preventive maintenance and repair on mobile transport vehicles. Knowledge of mechanics and electronics associated with heavy mobile equipment. Ability and qualifications to operate mobile equipment including tank trucks, dump trucks, lowboys and flatbed trucks in a safe manner. Ability to perform grinding, cutting, welding and other general mechanical repair activities. Ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc. Must be able to read a map and understand directions to the site of a truck breakdown.
Ability to safely and effectively use a welder, service truck, air driven impact and chisel, oxygen-acetylene torch, wrenches, screwdrivers, chisels, socket sets, hammers and related equipment.
Work requires walking, bending, pushing, pulling, working in an awkward position and lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to operate a dump truck, tank truck, lowboy and flatbed truck effectively and safely as prescribed by state law. Ability to read and understand warning labels, instructions, signs and similar information. Ability to work on a relatively independent basis. Ability to read a map and understand directions.
Ability to safely and effectively operate a manual transmission, brakes, clutch, gas pedal, chains, binders and nylon straps, removable neck hydraulic system, gas operated liquid transfer pump, truck radio and related equipment.
Work requires walking, climbing into and out of trucks, bending to check fluid levels and tire pressure, sitting for long periods of time, lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds and pulling a bar with 50 pounds of resistance to tighten binders.
Job hazards include exposure to diesel fuel, oil paint, ether, cleaners, exhaust fumes, dust, noise, fumes, heat and all weather conditions. Potential for injury if equipment is misused or safety precautions are not taken, including burns, eye injuries, strains, back injuries and bone fractures. About CRH Americas
