The Role:

The Moderna Research Co-op program is a 6-month experiential training program for students currently working towards an undergraduate or advanced degree in life sciences. During the co-op you will learn about the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry and gain valuable hands-on experience in one of the most bold and relentless companies currently leading the field in mRNA-LNP science. You will work under the supervision of an experienced Moderna team member and have opportunities for cross-team collaboration, networking, and mentorship.

Our co-op program dates are from January 16, 2024 -June 21, 2024. All applicants must be available for the entire duration of the program.

Here's What You'll Do:

  • Protein Science provides the opportunity to produce and characterize recombinant proteins, with the goal of expanding our understanding of the biology of mRNA therapeutics and improving their design and manufacture. Previous experience with recombinant protein expression and purification preferred.
  • Cell Biology this is an opportunity to contribute to the development of our mRNA therapeutics platform and get cross-functional training in cell-based assay development and fluorescence microscopy techniques to investigate cellular uptake, subcellular distribution and intracellular trafficking kinetics of mRNA. Previous exposure to cell biology, cell culture and microscopy is preferred.
  • Translational biology provides the opportunity to design and develop experimental capabilities that enable our understanding of LNP and mRNA related biology. As a co-op, you will participate in multitude of in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo experimental efforts that aid in the development of our next generation of mRNA and LNP therapeutics. Previous experience in molecular biology and/or bioengineering is preferred.
  • Research Automation Specific projects will involve learning various types of biological assays that support the Research and Early Development (R&ED) and Oncology research organization. The co-op will support the Research Automation team through in vitro and in vivo screen efforts. Mentoring, opportunities to enhance critical thinking, flexibility, multitasking, attention to detail and training on Hamilton automation infrastructure will be provided to accomplish day-to-day activities.

Here's What You'll Bring to the Table:
  • Currently enrolled Junior, Senior or Master's candidate
  • Previous co-op or intern experience preferred
  • Must have completed laboratory-intensive coursework in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Molecular Biology, or similar discipline
  • Familiarity with Molecular Biology preferred
  • Previous mammalian cell culture experience preferred
  • Must be eager, open to learning, independent and dedicated to high-quality science
  • Minimum GPA of 3.4 preferred
  • Legal authorization to work in the US
